A couple weeks ago, I was sick of doing homework.
So I told Trav we were going to rent a dog.
We rented her from a company here in Provo
for an hour and a half.
Somehow when we had her during our rent time,
We talked about keeping her.
The company rents puppies, and you can adopt the puppy if you fall in love.
Before this, there was no talk of a dog at our house.
Every time Travis tried, I shut it down.
I was very anti-dog.
Travis was very pro-dog.
So, when I told Travis I wanted to keep her, he thought it was a joke.
But I was serious.
After Mika left, we continued talking.
We started searching for some dogs on KSL.
But Mika already had our heart.
And no other dog gave me the same, "she needs to be a Pickett," feeling that she did.
Finally, we turned in an application to adopt her.
They told us we that two other people had applied,
but they would let us know if they happen to fall through.
We didn't think we had a chance.
Guess what?
They fell through, and we were so shocked.
By now, the talking of dogs hadn't stopped, but had slowed down.
We thought we would just get one later.
So we talked through the day and emailed the RentAPuppy place.
And we went to PetSmart immediately after the email was sent.
Out of excitement.
Meanwhile, we had some very positive comments.
They fueled our excitement.
We also had some very negative comments.
Which quickly put the fire out.
The comments made me sway back and forth.
But we kept forward.
A week and a half later.... She finally arrived.
We waited by the window.
Every car that drove by made my heart beat a little faster.
We couldn't wait.
We picked up Braden, cause he wanted to be a part of it all.
When she came in, she walked right to her bucket of toys.
She pulled out her rope, and I opened her bone with her.
She couldn't decide what was best to play with.
She explored the house and fell asleep.
She sleeps a lot.
Travis tried to put her in her little cage to go to bed.
He turned out the lights and walked out.
She immediately started crying and barking.
It broke our hearts.
So we did some quick research and found it was
better to have the dog in the bedroom you are in.
Then we moved her bed onto our bedroom floor
and she fell right asleep.
She did so well!
I was not expecting her to do so well her first night.
She slept all night long,
moving from the bed, to the cold floor.
I was worried she would chew wires, but she didn't.
We are so happy to have little Mika.
I was worried I wouldn't love her.
I was worried we made the wrong decision to get her.
But it was the right one.
I can't wait to see what the future holds for us with her.
She is a part of our family.
We love her.
Welcome to the family, little one!
(p.s. she's not so little).
More pictures to come, once I find my camera cord.
